Forrest and Marsa had been working all night and well into the day. By afternoon, they were finally getting some much needed rest. But for livestock guardian dogs, resting doesn't mean they're off duty.
While they rested, a fox suddenly tried to grab one of our hens. In an instant, both dogs were on their feet and doing what came naturally.
Forrest jumped the fence and went after the fox, driving the threat away from the homestead. Marsa immediately went to the hen to check on her and make sure she was safe.
This was Forrest and Marsa's teamwork in action. Forrest was usually the one who pursued the threat, while Marsa stayed closer to the animals and made sure everyone was safe.
They may have looked like they were sleeping, but they were still listening, still aware of their surroundings, and ready the moment their animals needed them.
Livestock guardian dogs don't clock out. Even when they're resting, they're still guardians.
This is the real life behind Forrest & Marsa: Guardians of the Homestead. They were guardians before they became characters.
